BOGA CUP RULES 2009
INTRODUCTION
THE GAME IS BASICALLY PLAYED LIKE DOUBLES PING PONG EXCEPT THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ALTERNATE WHO HITS THE BALL.
THE OBJECT IS TO HIT YOUR OPPONANETS CUP ON ANY SHOT WITH THE EXCEPTION OF YOUR OWN SERVE. HOUSE
RULES AND DECISIONS ARE FINAL. THERE WILL BE ONE JUDGE WATCHING EACH GAME TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS OR DISPUTES.
THE JUDGE MAY ALSO GIVE A NOD OF APPROVAL ON GOOD SHOTS AND MAY GLARE OR SNEER WHEN APPROPRIATE. PLAY
BALL.
I. SCORING
- 1 POINT: any ball that hits the side of your opponents cup.
- 2 POINTS: any ball that strikes the rim of the glass and bounces up. Note:
the ball must go up. If the ball hits a cup on one side of the table which causes it to go directly over the net, logic or physics or some science would dictate that the ball went up. The judge makes final
decision. He may consult other spectators who may have
a better angle.
- 3 POINTS: a
rarity. Any ball that goes in and out of a cup or hits more
than one rim. Judge decides. A rareity!
- 5 POINTS: the Grand Salami. Any ball that that lands in a cup and stays in the cup.
- Notes: a ball may strike more than one cup and points will be awarded same as above. After a ball hits
your cup, you may attempt to divert it from hitting another. ·
a ball can hit your opponents cup and bounce
back over the net to hit your own cup . Points will be awarded to each team. You can stop the ball from hitting your own cup
after it strikes your opponents. Last team to be scored on serves. First Round Games are played to 15 - win by two / Second Round Games are played to 15 - win by two / Third Round Games are played to 15 - win by two / Final Round Game is played to 21 - win by two / 15
points games switch sides when one team reaches 8 points / 21 point games switch sides when first team reaches 11
II. SERVING
- If you hit your opponents’ cup on the serve they get the pts.
- All serves are to be normal ping pong style serves although it can go
off the side of the table and can bounce more then once on the receiving teams side.
- The third “bad” serve in a row is savable.
- The team that is scored
upon always serves.
- If a ball is errantly hit and is not savable, the side that the ball ends up on will serve.
- Any ball that strikes the net on the serve is DEAD and considered one
bad serve.
- If a legal serve is not returned, the receiving team must serve.
- If the third served ball does not hit the opponents’ side, the receiving team can
save this ball.
- If
the ball rolls to the serving teams’ side, they may save it.
- Both players from the receiving team must be in the field of play (Team Balls Rule) during
the serve.
III. SAVING
A. If your opponents hit the ball off of your side of the table without hitting the table [or
hits it under the table], you can “SAVE” the ball.
B. A “legal”
save consists of two set shots and a kill. The sets can be either a scoop and one tap
onto the table for your teammate to kill or you can tap the ball on the ground to your teammate to then scoop it onto your
side of the table for a kill. The Kill is one shot to hit your opponents cup after only one bounce
on the table. The kill may also be hit out of mid air.
C. “Illegal”
sets include: putting your paddle on top of the ball to roll to yourself or partner; using your hands in any way.D. One foot must be behind the back of the table on a kill.
This is known as the Spike Rule.
E. Your paddle may not go over the net on kill. SPIKE RULE 2
F. You may use your body to knock down an errantly hit ball.
G. If
you attempt to save a ball on your opponents side of the table, they may elect to yell “Pirate” and serve the
ball.
H. The ball must be moving in order to be saved. A dead ball is known as “Elvis”.
I.
The person who is going to make the Kill may divert the ball from hitting your own cup - abort the
save -. However, the if the setter diverts the ball from hitting your own cup, the other team will be awarded one
point ( it beats putting it in your own cup - 5 points)
J.
A ball may be saved if it clears your
opponents side of the table and ends up rolling back
to your side.
K. A ball may be
saved if your shot hits the opponents side, is not returned
and ends up back on your side.
IV. MISCELLANEOUS
A. If you knock over one of your teams beers, you must
drink a full one within 30 seconds.
B.
All spills must be cleaned off the playing surface by either “Reddy”, “Peggy” or paper towels.
C.
A non-serve shot that hits your side of the net cannot be stopped until it either hits your cup or passes by the cup.
D
As mentioned earlier, you may divert a ball from hitting another one of your cups after one has been hit. If while attempting this you hit the ball into one of your cups, it counts.
E. No bathroom breaks during first round games,
one during the second and third round games and a few
during the finals
F. 20 minute time limits on first and second round games.
G.
Interference by a spectator will be re-served by the team
H. If
you grab a ball or blow a ball from hitting your cup, the Judge will award a point to the other team.
I.
Excessive arguing
and or delays will cause a team to lose a
point and the next warning may earn the team the boot.
J.
A ball may be saved
if it clears your opponents side of the table
and rolls back to your side.
